Praktisi Mengajar Jilid III: Kolaborasi Unsri dan Badan Karantina dalam Edukasi dan Pelayanan Masyarakat

Indralaya, 3 November 2025 – Program Praktisi Mengajar Jilid III kembali dilaksanakan di Universitas Sriwijaya melalui kerja sama dengan Balai Karantina Hewan, Ikan, dan Tumbuhan Sumatera Selatan. Kegiatan ini diinisiasi oleh Program Studi Proteksi Tanaman, Jurusan Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan (HPT), Fakultas Pertanian, sebagai bagian integral dari pelaksanaan mata kuliah wajib Karantina Tumbuhan dalam Kurikulum 2024. Sebanyak 86 mahasiswa turut berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan ini untuk memperkuat pemahaman dan pengalaman praktis mengenai isu-isu perlindungan tanaman di lapangan. Ketua Jurusan HPT sekaligus Koordinator Program Studi Proteksi Tanaman, Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Herlinda, M.Si., hadir memberikan sambutan hangat mewakili Dekan Fakultas Pertanian Prof. Ir. A. Muslim, M.Agr. “Saya berharap melalui praktisi mengajar Jilid III ini, semangat kolaborasi antara Universitas Sriwijaya dan Badan Karantina Indonesia semakin kuat. Tidak hanya dalam kegiatan edukasi, tetapi juga dalam pelayanan masyarakat dan pengembangan riset terapan di bidang proteksi tanaman” ungkap Prof Herlinda dalam membuka acara.

Pada kesempatan ini, kegiatan praktisi mengajar  mengusung tema “Peran Badan Karantina Indonesia dalam Melayani Masyarakat” yang disampaikan oleh Ibu Anita Setyawati, S.P., M.Si. dan Ibu Nadia Devega Panggar Besi, S.P., M.Si. Dalam pemaparannya, Ibu Anita menjelaskan peran strategis Badan Karantina Indonesia sebagai garda terdepan dalam menjaga keamanan hayati negara. Beliau menekankan bahwa pelayanan karantina tidak hanya berfokus pada pengawasan dan pencegahan masuknya organisme pengganggu, tetapi juga pada pelayanan publik yang cepat, transparan, dan berbasis digital. Sementara itu, Ibu Nadia menambahkan, “Petugas karantina tidak hanya bekerja di pelabuhan atau bandara, tetapi juga aktif mendampingi petani dan eksportir agar produk pertanian mereka aman dan memenuhi standar ekspor” Beliau menjelaskan bagaimana sosialisasi, bimbingan teknis, dan inspeksi lapangan menjadi bagian penting dari pelayanan publik Badan Karantina. Kedua narasumber juga membagikan pengalaman nyata di lapangan. Ibu Anita menyebutkan, “Beberapa kali kami menemukan komoditas yang terindikasi terserang hama dan penyakit. Penanganan cepat sangat penting agar tidak menyebar ke daerah lain.” Ibu Nadia juga menambahkan, “Kami selalu berupaya memastikan produk ekspor segar sampai ke tujuan dengan aman, sekaligus memberi edukasi kepada masyarakat agar lebih memahami regulasi dan prosedur karantina”.

Sesi tanya jawab berlangsung sangat interaktif. Mahasiswa terlihat antusias mengajukan berbagai pertanyaan terkait implementasi karantina di lapangan, prosedur pengendalian Organisme Pengganggu Tumbuhan (OPT), hingga strategi pelayanan publik bagi petani dan eksportir. Azzahra, salah satu mahasiswa Proteksi Tanaman menanyakan, “Mengapa masih banyak masyarakat, terutama petani, yang belum memahami pentingnya karantina tumbuhan? Apakah ada upaya khusus dari Badan Karantina untuk meningkatkan edukasi di lapangan?”

Menanggapi pertanyaan tersebut, Ibu Nadia menjelaskan, “Memang benar, banyak yang belum teredukasi mengenai regulasi karantina. Masih ada anggapan bahwa karantina hanya memperlambat proses pengiriman barang. Padahal, tujuan utama kami adalah melindungi pertanian nasional dari ancaman organisme pengganggu tumbuhan yang bisa menimbulkan kerugian besar.” Beliau juga menambahkan bahwa Badan Karantina Indonesia terus berupaya melakukan sosialisasi melalui berbagai kegiatan edukatif, baik di tingkat petani, eksportir, maupun masyarakat umum. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa tentang peran strategis Badan Karantina Indonesia dalam melindungi komoditas pertanian sekaligus melayani masyarakat dengan profesionalisme.
